HOW DOES IT WORK?
HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS…

High school sports operate under California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), schools in San Jose area fall under one of its divisions known as Central Coast Section (CCS). Girls’ tennis is played in the fall and boys’ tennis in the spring.
- League season: Public schools play in the Blossom Valley Athletic League (BVAL), which is split into tiers by strength. Private and Catholic schools such as Mitty, Valley Christian and St. Francis play in the West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL). Teams play dual matches (4 singles and 3 doubles).
- CCS playoffs: The top league teams compete for the section title.
- CIF NorCal Regionals: CCS qualifiers face the best teams from the other Northern California sections.
- CIF State Championship: The NorCal champion plays the SoCal champion for the state title.

Is it good to play
Middle School Tennis?
We haven’t seen consistently good competitions at MS level. There are very strong players at this levels, however, low traction and lacking teams/players, for the most part more serious players opt to play tournaments instead of participating in MS Tennis.

Congrats to our players for their incredible tournament results. Learn more about our Competitive Player Development Program: More info.
USTA Tournaments
From L7 to L1
L7 is the first level for yellow ball Junior Tournaments sanctioned by the USTA. Starting from L6, players will need ranking in order to be selected. The higher the level, the more ranking points required for entry. L2 and L1 consist of very experienced and highly ranked players.

How does it matter?
Your UTR Rating
Currently, with Junior tournaments, the highest level and more important ones are sanctioned by USTA and ITF. Neither organizations account for UTR rating in their acceptance merits. All merits will be based on players’ ranking and some exceptions for Wild Card Entries. For the most part, UTR rating does not matter especially in the Juniors. It does matter more when players compete for UTR pro tour, UTR will require higher rating to be accepted. Moreover, UTR will help when it comes to college recruiting, college coaches will first look at a player’s UTR before taking any further steps in connecting or recruiting such player.
